Apparently it was created to run as a TV spot, but due to the language, it was turned into a viral ad. It’s great makes me laugh everytime!!!!!!

Directed by Ridley Scott. Got to be one of the best ads ever!
This commercial, designed by the advertising agency Chiat/Day to introduce Apple’s Macintosh computer and directed by Ridley Scott fresh off his science fiction classic Blade Runner, has never run again since that Super Bowl spot. But few commercials have ever been more influential. Advertising Age named it the 1980s’ Commercial of the Decade. You can still see its echoes today in futuristic ads for technology and telecommunications multinationals such as AT&T, MCI, and Intel.

“As a relatively new water brand Drench had to find a way to make an impact,” explained CHI Partners’ executive creative director Ewan Paterson, who wrote the advert.
“By creating something that people would hopefully seek out and pass on to their friends we’re able to achieve that impact.”
During the dazzling dance routine the gyrating bespectacled scientist swigs from a bottle of Drench mineral water then skids on his knees to the tagline ‘Brains perform best when they’re hydrated.’

This ad made us chuckle while watching BigBrother on Friday night….
Cadbury’s have just launched a £6.2m campaign for Dairy Milk featuring a gorilla playing the drum solo of Phil Collins’ track ‘In the Air Tonight’. The ad was written and directed by Sony Bravia ‘balls’ creative director Juan Cabral of Fallon London. Rather than wet our appeite for gorgeous tasting chocolate, the ad simply aims to entertain.
Laurence Green, planning director of Fallon, “Cadbury traditionally did well-built ads for the interruption age when consumers had an implicit media deal with advertisers. In exchange for free TV they would allow us to interrupt their programmes with commercials,” says Green. “The nation has a massive soft spot for CDM and it is deeply embedded in the national psyche. For a brand that is so well known, it’s arguable whether the old style interruption advertising model is the best model for the future. So we are trying to engage more genuinely with our audience.”
“Chocolate is about joy and pleasure. For years Cadbury has told us that it was generous, through the glass and a half strap line. We thought, don’t tell us how generous you are; show us. Don’t tell us about joy; show us joy.”
Personally, I think the ad works. Some might say the ad’s a risk due to the lack of product or even mention of the C word. Something that makes you smile so effortlessly is contagious. What do you think?

It must be the best compliment to any brand or creative agency to have a spoof ad made for your advert or product. There have been many spoof ads over the years and some really great ones recently, here’s my top 10 with a couple of bonus clips at the end of this post.
Starting with this classic, the oldest spoof example I could find…
