When you are a large multinational company like Google, the slightest changes in your identity will quickly be noticed. A few week ago, the big capital “G” that was used as a favicon on every google site turned into an ugly lower-case “g”. That tiny event gave birth to tons of reactions on blogs or on twitter (did anyone say buzz?), people obviously didn’t seem to like the new favicon.
A few days ago, Google’s reaction appeared on the Official Google Blog, Marissa Mayer explains that the current favicon is part of an ongoing design process that seems to have been painful (that’s how I translate rigorous and interesting).

It’s been a while since we’ve posted anything substantial to the Atomic Blog. That’s mostly down to us just being too dam busy, recently launching 10 websites for Begbies Traynor and 3 site overhauls for Interior Plantscapes, Streetfighter Motorcycles and Lifestyle Blinds.

Not to mention we’ve been growing rapidly recently. In less than 2 months we’ve grown from 18 staff to 26 and more than doubled our studio space to cope with all the new bodies. If you’re interested in working for Atomic, make sure you’re registered on our recruitment mailing list. Watch this space!

Getty images have just released a new version of their website for users to preview. The new site will launch fully over the next few weeks.

At first glance it looks like they’ve made significant improvements to their search interface. Allowing you to filter searches based on dynamic criteria based upon your search results, a popular technique employed by larger e-commerce sites. Getty hope the new interface will enable you to find images faster, broaden your search criteria for more image results and instantly access similar images that are tagged with related keywords.
I think it’s a step in the right direction from a traditional stock library facing increasing competition from the swarm of royalty free image libraries that are emerging every day.
